SLU-PP-332 is a synthetic small molecule — an acylhydrazone, not a peptide — identified and characterized by the Burris lab at Saint Louis University (the “SLU” in its name) as an agonist of all three estrogen-related receptors: ERRα, ERRβ, and ERRγ. It shows the highest potency at ERRα (EC50 = 98nM, vs. 230nM and 430nM at ERRβ and ERRγ, respectively). Prior to its identification, ERRα had proven difficult to target pharmacologically despite genetic evidence linking the ERR family to skeletal muscle exercise capacity.
