Tesamorelin is a synthetic 44-amino-acid analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). The N-terminus carries a stabilizing trans-3-hexenoyl modification that resists enzymatic degradation by dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP-IV), extending its functional half-life relative to native GHRH(1-44).
Tesamorelin is notable as the only GHRH-analog peptide approved by the FDA for any indication — originally for the reduction of excess abdominal fat in HIV-associated lipodystrophy under the brand name Egrifta (Theratechnologies). Outside that approved use, the compound remains a research compound.
